Coach Dena

Dena Madden (53) began vaulting in 2003, at the age of 46, when she saw how much fun her children were having with it. Initially, she was vaulting therapeutically for spinal problems and thoracic outlet syndrome, then recreationally, and finally competitively at Trot. She passed her AVA trot medal in 2007. In 2010, she moved to Canter, and has been assistant coaching for the Mile High Vaulters. She is the club secretary and the unofficial team “mom”. Having never done anything with sports until beginning vaulting, she thinks that one is never too old to begin an athletic career. She is especially interested in growing therapeutic and adult vaulting.
The Madden’s live in the foothills west of Loveland, where they currently keep goats, chickens, ponies, cats, and a dachshund. Outside of vaulting, Dena is a wife and mother of four children, and works as a family physician in Loveland and Fort Collins. She is involved in church activities and interested in handcrafts, animals, and reading.
